Toronto Argonauts have options to consider at wide receiver
After the departure of DeVier Posey this past offseason, the Toronto Argonauts have many capable options to fill the void left by the Grey Cup MVP.
Whenever the Toronto Argonauts lost a player to injury last season they would always embrace the “Next Man Up” mentality which proved to be a valuable sentiment en route to a Grey Cup.
This season, those words will prove to be valuable especially with the departure of DeVier Posey looking to make it in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. It leaves the Argos without a big part of their offence as the Grey Cup MVP had 52 receptions for 744 yards (avg. 14.3) in 12 games last season.
Led by S.J. Green and Armanti Edwards, the Argos receiving corps along with James Wilder Jr. in the backfield will bring a balanced attack. The real question is how the rest of the depth chart fills out and Friday’s preseason game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats could provide some early ideas.
For most of the season Jeff Fuller started on the opposite side of Posey as one of the outside receivers but eventually lost his job to Malcolm Williams who is back with the team in camp. The team also brought in Brian Tyms late last season and he might also have the inside track one of the outside receiver spots.
Tyms was released by the TiCats last season but also brings a wealth of experience from the NFL with stops with the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers.
They alongside Rodney Smith, Jonathan Epps, Llevi Noel and Brian Jones will present some intriguing options for Marc Trestman and recently promoted offensive coordinator Tommy Condell.
Bear Woods update
After practice on Friday, Trestman provided an update on LB Bear Woods who has not participated in any drills in training camp. The 31-year-old had offseason surgery on his back and is still recovering but has been seen on the sidelines doing some light jogging.

While not having Woods ready for the start of the season is not ideal, the Argos are more than equipped to handle his absence. As Mike Ganter of the Toronto Sun points out, the team signed Taylor Reed in the offseason from the Ottawa Redblacks who was expected to battle Woods for starts as the middle linebacker.
The Argos have a wealth of depth in the linebacking position led by Marcus Ball, Reed and Woods with Terrence Plummer, Jeff Luc, Akeem Jordan and Khalil Bass who Ganter points out as the experienced options on the roster.
Argos bring another former NFL RB to camp
The Double Blue added some NFL experience to the running back position as they signed Khiry Robinson on Friday. The28-year-old went from the New Orleans Saints to the New York Jets but sat out the 2017 with an injured leg according to TSN.
James Wilder Jr., remains atop the depth chart but has more competition now with Robinson bring size and pass catching ability. Whether the former Texas A&M product can make the final roster remains to be seen but he certainly brings some intrigue.
